All India Quota vs State Quota for MBBS Admission – Explained

MBBS seats in India are divided into All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota categories. Under AIQ, 15% of seats in all government medical colleges (except some in Jammu & Kashmir) are reserved for students across India. These seats are allotted through MCC counseling based on NEET-UG rank. The State Quota reserves 85% of seats for students domiciled in that particular state, managed by respective state counseling authorities. While AIQ allows nationwide competition, State Quota benefits local students. Understanding both quotas helps candidates choose the right counseling route and improve their chances of MBBS admission.
